Alter MachineName To Include WorkgroupDomain

From systemhoundwiki

Report the Workgroup or Domain within the machine name

For customers which have duplicated machine names within their enterprise - systemhound 2009 supports the reporting of the machine name prefixed with the workgroup or NT domain (e.g. WORKGROUP.mypc123) - which is reported depends on whether the client computer is part of Domain or a Workgroup. systemhound identifies machines by a unique id and is unaffected by what the machine is called.

  • Under each Operating System within the configuration tool select the 'standard system information' node within 'system information' and then click on the check box on the right titled 'report machine name to include workgroup/domain'

  • Once you have enabled this setting for all the operating systems select File->Save and exit the application. Over the next 24hrs all existing machines will update their reported machine name within systemhound. Please note that for machines already audited by systemhound the machine name may be reported as a machine change.

Note: A computer can only be either a member of a domain or a member of a workgroup. Also note
that for machines already audited by systemhound the machine name may be reported as a machine change.
