Julian, if your SH server is visible on the internet,  then this will work. SMTP isn't necessary. The client does a scan daily (or whatever the schedules have been set to) and then ships the data when it detects a network connection. If the SH server has a visible IP on the internet, then data will be transferred when the machine is online. The default client-server comunication port is 4004, so ensure the firewall lets traffic through from here.

Nish,

I understand your explanation. It is interesting that machines such as laptops will notice whenever the network is available. I had <wrongly> thought that it only checked once per day.

However, I am part of an organisation of over 20 thousand employees. The firewall is kept very tight.

I imagine the team in charge of the firewall(s) would take a lot of persuading for them to open up a port for a relatively unknown piece of software such as SystemHound.
