Of my 45 SystemHound desktops, I'm having a problem with one of my Windows XP-SP2 (current updates) systems.  SHservice.exe crashes randomly with the error log entry shown below.  Other XP-SP2 systems are not having this problem.

"Faulting application shservice.exe, version 4.2.0.0, faulting module pbplugin.sub, version 4.2.0.0, fault address 0x0000BD8C"

Any ideas?

Could you try downloading the latest version of systemhound from the website please as the new version (uploaded last week) fixed a fault similar to the one you describe.

note: If the compilation date (digital signature) of the C:\Program Files\systemhound\plugins\pbplugin.sub is older than 17th January you have a old install.

After re-installing on the server - try re-installing the client on a machine to see if the problem persists.

I downloaded SH and did the client install again.  The "pbplugin" file still has a date of 11/17/2005 which is the same as it had before.

Is there actually a version of SH newer than 4.2.0.0?

hi there

If you go to our website and download the latest version this will clear the problem.
The latest date is 17/1/06

you can find the download at www.systemhound.net/download
the file that is there is the modified installer

You will need to re-install the server also - even if you reinstall the client the files from the server will be downloaded and overwrite the client files.

Thanks
Justin

When I reinstall SH on my server, will I lose my existing database?

Hi there.

If you are already running 4.2 then no you will not...

To be safe you can backup your easy-audit folder and this will preserve your database

You can then re apply it if something goes wrong..

Thanks

I am encountering a similiar error on some of my servers.  I've downloaded the latest version of the server software from the systemhound site but after reinstallation, the phbplugin still has the same date 11/17/05.  I've even gone so far as to backup my easy audit folder to another location, uninstall and reinstall systemhound server.

What am I missing?  Thanks for the help.

Are you reinstalling the central server? Reinstalling the client machines will have no affect as their configuration is refreshed from the server.

If you still have problems can you on the machine exhibiting the error:

Run from the dos command prompt:
  shrefresh.exe noupload verbose > "C:\program files\systemhound\logs\refresh.txt"

and then zip up the directory "C:\program files\systemhound\logs" and send it to support@systemhound.com
The logs will help us diagnose the problem for you.

Note: shrefresh can be found on the central server under systemhound\utils.
