RAM Values

When viewing the reports in SystemHound i select the RoundUp RAM check box which does what it says. e.g it rounded a value of 447MB to 448MB. The only problem is there is 512MB installed and when i create a bar chart showing the amount of memory installed i get many bars. i.e 6 x 504MB, 2 x 448MB, 3 x 512MB. This gives a false *ysis of what's installed as it should be 11 x 512MB. Is there anything that can be done to rectify the problem?

I don't understand why no one has replied to this. It's been almost 2 months! Anyway, here's the issue. SystemHound (and many others like it) report total RAM using the amount available to the system, which should be the same total shown under Properties for "My Computer" or in the Task Manager under the Performance tab. This most always means there is built-in video (VGA) on the motherboard. What you're seeing is a difference between how much RAM is installed (512MB) and the shared RAM used by the VGA adapter. In this case, 512MB - 448MB = 64MB. So that particular computer has 64MB of shared RAM being used by the built-in VGA.
There are competing products out there that give more detailed RAM information, but they also show information than you may not want or need.

Available memory is what systemhound reports and is sometimes less than expected due to video cards etc (as you explain). As it is 'free memory' that would be available to the OS systemhound reports it. In line with many other products we also report the physical memory cards installed (e.g. 256mb+256mb), so you have an indication of whether the machine can be upgraded easily.
