Port Forwarding
«
on:

hi
i installed SH on one of our servers on our LAN.
Ive set the remote clients to connect to the external ip address of the firewall.
This then forwards to the server on 4004.
i can see in the firewall logs that this is being accepted but the server is not showing the clients.
any ideas ?
cheers

it says "unable to connect to the database server xx.xx.xx.xx"
yet i just watched on the firewall the client connecting ?
is there another port that needs to be opened?

BOFH (I assume that isn't you real name!!),
systemhound clients connect to the server via
port 4004
.
Firstly, make sure the systemhound collector service is running on the central server.
If you are using windows firewall then simply add collector.exe to the list of executables permitted to listen for port connections on the central server (the installer will do this for you). You do not need to configure windows firewall on the client machines as windows firewall only stops incoming packets.
If you are using a different firewall (installed on the network) , which sounds like your setup, then forwarding port 4004 is all that is required. Make sure the clients are connecting to the correct IP address - this might not be the IP address of the central server depending on how you are configuring the firewall and forwarding ports.
