After several months of using SystemHound it is still only on 85% of the pc's. The rest is only occasionally on the network at odd hours, and therefore not found by the manually operated network scans.

Is there a possibility of scheduling network scans for new pc's,
and then automatically install SystemHound clients on the ones found.

The documentation and faq's only mention scheduling of client scans on already installed pc's

You may have to use the Manual Install (see User Guide, page 18) to load the systemhound client on these PCs.

Once the client is installed, the PC will report inventory data back to the systemhound server when they connect to the network ... providing a scan is due or overdue.

To install manually I would have to already physically have found them.
Doesn't solve my problem of scanning for already excisting pc's and laptops that is infrequently on the network.

software and hardware auditing with systemhound

If you are using active directory then deploy systemhound using a group policy (you will need to create a silent install (see manual) and a ZAW package).

Alternatively use a login script to deploy systemhound - using a silent install or the systemhound utility client.exe to pull down and install the software.

Do you plan to add the ability to automatically scan for machines not being handled by Systemhound in a future release?  Having the ability to see which machines either do not have System Hound installed, or are not reporting it as installed in a automatic fashion is important.

If there are no plans, what port/response does SystemHound look for on the manual scan?  I may be able to use another application to give this information.

We do not plan to support this in the future due to the prevalence on firewalls on client machines. The support way to achieve what you require is via login script of active directory.

The remote deployment tool detects machines by checking to see if the 'systemhound scheduler' service is running on the remote machine.
