I'm trying to implement SH in a useful way accross our network rite now.

I've come accross one issue which we are having problems with and prevents us including and running SH in our reports/network.

This is that when it does the audit of all software on client machines, it tends to include EVERYTHING.  Now i know this sounds like an obvious statement to start.  But just imagine 9 pages of software per PC, then multiply the number of PC's by 150+ accross diff continents and things start to get complicated.

The 2 things i would like to reduce are:
1)  No reporting of things like MS Pinball.
2)  Is there a way to stop things like MS Visio including each module its installed with (ALOT) as this is taking up a hell of alot of space in the list's.

Any chance you can help me out or point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated.

9 pages per pc?? Exactly how much software is this? (the bottom of the pc software report will indicate the number)

You can hide MS Pinball from the main software report by hiding through the Website Maintenance tool. (At this moment, hidden software will still show up on the pc software report to ensure accuracy of auditing)

If MS Visio has modules that are showing as installed apps (either  as a service or in the registry), then it will show up in the software report. Hide the unwanted modules from the software report by using the Website Maintenance tool.

Please also ensure that you have not turned on Program Files scanning in the Central Configuration (Application Reporting section) as this is not necessary for a regular inventory, and may be contributing to the excessive numbers of software discovered.

ok to revise this post:

Ive now started to hide things.  Is there anyway to hide things in bulk as trawling through 900 installed apps/services/reg entries (network wide this time) is time consuming.  We just want to know when people have installed new software mainly.  Such as Quicktime or Realplayere etc etc.

You could use the 'Hide All' feature in v4.0.4.0. This is a checkbox at the top of the software report in Website Maintenance, which will hide everything showing on that particular page. You can finetune this using the controls at the bottom. Hope that helps.

We are on version 4.12.14, i've had a quick look at the website but i can't see how to goto 4.04.04 or where there is a possible download.

As we have a volume licence is there somewhere i should be looking for update downloads?

No, 4.12.14 is the version of the Web Maint tool - your systemhound version is on the Web Reports home page.

To get 4.0.4.0, re-download the evaluation from the website at www.systemhound.com, on the download page. Install this over your current version and you'll be upgraded.

Update went on fine, some nice changes.

Just want to check something with you also.  If i hide software/hardware and a user installs the hidden software/hardware.  Will it still show in the change report?

Hi, if you hide some software and a user installs that software, it will NOT appear on the change reports. It is assumed you have hidden the software because you do not wish to see it / regard it as not relevant.

Similarly, if a software that is hidden is uninstalled, it will not appear on the change reports. If in future it is re-installed, it will remain hidden from the reports until you uncheck its box in the Web Maint tool.
