Windows 95 Software reporting
«

We have Win 9x systems. In the hardware list, the operating system is listed correctly i.e. Windows 95 B. However, in the software list, Windows 95 does not appear at all. We would like a count of the systems running Windows 95 and Windows 98 like those produced
for XP, 2000, and NT.

The OS does not appear in the master software list. This is because the OS is not considered as a software app as it is so integrated with the hardware, which is why it appears in teh hardware list. It
does
appear in the software report for an individual machine, but this is simply a copy of its entry from the hardware list.
However, you can use the Custom Software Tool to identify the OS, to some extent. In the Current Registry Software tab of the Custom Software Tool, add in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion as the Registry Key and ProductName as the value (and give it a description and manufacturer). This will then be reported by systemhound on the next scan as Windows 95, in the master software report.
You can do the same for Win NT and above - just use HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProductName
